PROJECT OVERVIEW

After months of careful planning and preparation, Warrick County, INDOT, American Structurepoint, and JBI Construction are preparing to start construction of the Safe Routes to School (SRTS) project. This project will construct approximately 1.2 miles of multi-use trail along Vann Road from SR 261 to Casey Road and along Casey Road from Castle South Middle School to Oak Grove Road. A trail will also be added at Castle North Middle School beginning at the parking lot, stretching around the north side of the track, and terminating at Oak Trail Drive. In addition, approximately 800 feet of sidewalk will be added along SR 261 from the Ridgebrook Court cul-de-sac in the Hickory View subdivision connecting to existing sidewalk near the far north parking lot entrance of Castle High School. These paths will allow auxiliary mobility between Castle High School, Castle South and Castle North Middle Schools, and John H. Castle Elementary School.

DETOUR / CLOSURES

Trails (TR-A, TR-A1, TR-A2 & TR-B)

On Monday August 2, 2021 around mid-morning, the Southbound Lane of Casey Road from Vann Road to the Castle South Middle School Entrance will be closed for Construction of new concrete curb and gutter and HMA Widening. This section of road will be one-way Northbound traffic only. See attached plans for Construction Sign details. This Southbound lane closure will be in place until the end of business on August 10, 2021 weather permitting. After this
date, the remainder of this section will be built under flagging conditions.

Furthermore, Casey Road from Vann Road to the Cul-de-sac will be closed to “thru-traffic” until further notice for the purpose of construction of new curb and gutter, HMA Widening, and trail. Local traffic and emergency vehicles will be able to travel through the staggered barricades, but will need to use caution of excavation near the Southbound lane.  During this time-frame, the Castle High School entrance north of the football field will be closed.

Trails (TR-B)

There will be temporary lanes closures along Vann Road and Casey Road during construction hours. JBI will have the area being worked on restricted down to one lane, and flaggers will be provided to direct traffic.

Trails (TR-D & TR-E)

There will be a lane restriction on the southbound right lane of SR 261, approximately across the road from Castle High School. This lane restriction will stay in place for the duration of the construction of the additional sidewalk in this location. Sidewalk closure signs will also be installed for pedestrians.

Trails (TR-F & TR-G)

For this portion of trails, there will only be sidewalk closed signs installed on the southeast side of Castle North Middle School and by the subdivision off Oak Trail Drive.
